Teacher`s Appreciation Day

On Thursday 3rd of September this year, we had Teacher`s Appreciation Day or called “Wan Wai Kru” in Thai. Wan Wai Kru is deemed to be one of the most important days for teachers in Thailand. It is the day that students take this opportunity to show their appreciation and gratefulness to their teachers. On that day students mad their own trays decorated with incenses and candles for boys’ and flowers for girls’. The class representatives presented the trays to their homeroom teachers with a very nice manner.

We sang the Thai song “Phra-Khun-Thii-Saam”, which talked about how important the teacher was. It was so nice. The students who were selected from Elementary, Middle, and High school read the message to the teachers. After that the teachers tied the white strings on the students’ wrists and gave them blessings along. That was so nice. Also, there was a special performance form senior.

They made up their own song and music for the teachers. In Thai class, we had opportunity to make the garlands to give to teachers. However, the teacher told us that we could also give to our parents as the parents are our first teachers in our lives.

I like Teacher`s Appreciation Day because it is a good opportunity for students to thank the teachers. Some people might be shy to thank their teachers. I also like giving the flowers to the teachers because I think it is better than just say thank you to them. Giving flowers was more touching in my opinion. Overall, it was a wonderful activity.

Board Message

NIVA International School’s Executive Board is made up of dedicated and visionary parents administrators, teachers, and staff. As the governing body, the Board wants the school to make a real difference in our children’s future through NIVA’s education. Every child must succeed.
The Board recommends you to take a few minutes to read through the plans and programs we have for your children, because we truly want to give them the best opportunities as they go through their important formative years here at NIVA.
The Board believes that a nurturing school is only second to a loving and caring home. Therefore, NIVA’s fundamental approach to education is creating a positive attitude through a nurturing environment – an environment that fosters positive thinking that counterbalances negative mindsets, the reason for lack of motivation and behavioral problems. In a nurturing environment, the teachers, staff, students and parents maintain a friendly non-threatening environment where students feel comfortable to participate in learning, questioning, searching, engaging in practical skills and trying new innovations. Children in positive environments value good behavior and responsibility, which are the foundation for compassion and productivity.
The Board believes nurturing involves the training of the mind, which is the center of all learning, attitude, social interaction and creativity.
The mind is often mistaken for the brain or the function of it. Unlike the brain which is an organ of the body, the mind is a formless continuum that functions to perceive, analyze, understand, make decisions and is able to create one’s physical and mental environment through thinking that can translate to reality. The development of the
mind naturally happens as life continues with experiences, learning new things and time. All creations and innovations are of the mind and are the results of one’s imaginations, most of which are from early childhood to adolescence.
When you choose NIVA, you are choosing a school that will remain with your children all their life because it is a school that nurtures a positive mind for lifetime achievements.

Brief history

Niva IS first entered the Thai education scene in 1991 as Niva Overseas School (NOS), a private study center catering to overseas students who wanted to prepare and sit for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education examinations. This in turn led to the opening of Niva International Kindergarten (NIK) in 1999 to cater to the younger siblings of the students of NOS. By the end of 2001, the combined enrollment at NOS and NIK had reached 250 students and the decision to purchase the land where the current school now stands was made. The present school and its facilities were completed in July 2002 and Niva International School (Niva IS) opened on August, 5, 2002. Today, Niva IS serves over 350 students who come from around 25 different countries.

Although originally a British curriculum school, Niva IS has always incorporated American and other international elements in its program. In 2004 Niva IS submitted an American curriculum from Kindergarten through grade 12 to the Thai Ministry of Education, which is now approved allowing our students an American/International path to graduation. All subjects at Niva IS, with the exception of Thai, Chinese and modern languages, are taught in English language.

The name, Niva originally named for the children of the school’s founders, Nicholas and Vanisara, Niva means excellence and has come to stand for Nurturing, Innovative, Virtuous and Achieving: The hallmarks of Niva International School.
