NIVA Students win in TECHATHON 2019 at Bangkok Patana School

NIVA Girls hold winning certificates NIVA Techathon team 2019 pose with their teacherFrom November 22-23, 2019, four students from NIVA participated in the TECHATHON 2019 at Bangkok Patana School. Phimchanok Mukgard, Nichanun Khamsrikaew, Sirawich Smitsomboon and Richard Petrasch participated in the Beginners level and Advanced level. Patana Development Bank is the organizer of this event.

The winners of the beginners level went to our Grade 7 girls, Phimchanok Mukgard and Nichanun Khamsrikaew. Ms. Janet de Guzman prepared and  trained the girls during their computer classes.

A Techathon is a technology-based event. Participants try to generate creative solutions to a given theme in a limited time period. Students who are enthusiastic about coding or even computer science projects in general benefit from this event. Therefore, this event brings individuals with similar interests in the tech environment. Furthermore, all profits generated from this event will be donated to a charity known as “KIVA”, which specializes in lending to the underprivileged through micro-finance.

The best, most creative solutions receives prizes on the given theme in each of the different categories. These categories are the easy, medium and hard. The moderators assign different categories to the participants. Therefore, these tasks gives the students enough challenge, according to their coding experience and background. Lastly, companies will also be present at the event, giving all of the students the opportunity to learn more about their product. For impressive projects, some of the companies will offer internships to the more serious participants who shows potential.
